Kuehne+Nagel invests in a new healthcare logistics centre in Frankfurt

Kuehne+Nagel has opened a 3,505 sqm healthcare logistics centre at Frankfurt Airport, expanding specialised capacity for the handling of temperature-sensitive pharma and healthcare products. The new facility helps manufacturers move critical products through one of Europe's leading air cargo hubs and supports growing demand for reliable healthcare supply chains worldwide.

The investment builds on a series of recent healthcare logistics developments in Frankfurt. Earlier this year, Frankfurt was added to Inspire, Kuehne+Nagel’s Boeing 747-8F freighter network, and the Frankfurt-Atlanta Cool Corridor for temperature-sensitive healthcare shipments was launched. These developments reinforce Frankfurt's role as a key healthcare logistics gateway and enhance Kuehne+Nagel's ability to connect pharmaceutical manufacturers with global markets.

“Frankfurt is an important gateway for healthcare logistics. With this investment, we are expanding the specialised infrastructure needed to support the growing movement of temperature-sensitive medicines worldwide. Together with our recent healthcare developments in Frankfurt, the new centre provides customers with greater reliability, connectivity, and control across global supply chains,” says Martin Schaefer, SVP Air Logistics Germany at Kuehne+Nagel.

Strategically located in Frankfurt Airport’s Cargo City South within a Kuehne+Nagel owned 13,000 sqm complex, the HealthChain-certified facility offers direct tarmac access and rapid connections to cargo handling areas, helping reduce transit times and product exposure during transfers. The dedicated GDP-compliant environment offers approximately 2,500 sqm of controlled room temperature storage (+15°C to +25°C), more than 500 sqm of cold chain storage (+2°C to +8°C), and ultra-low temperature freezers capable of storing products at -70°C. The centre also includes temperature-controlled staging areas and specialised pharmaceutical truck handling facilities.

As part of Kuehne+Nagel’s global network of more than 270 HealthChain-certified locations, the centre provides healthcare customers with consistent quality standards and specialised handling capabilities across key trade lanes.
