Terracap to Build New Airside Cargo Facility at Edmonton Airport

Edmonton International Airport and Terracap Management Inc. (Terracap) broke ground on a new 50,000-square-foot airside cargo facility, marking another step in the growth of YEG’s cargo and logistics ecosystem.

Developed, owned and managed by Terracap, the facility will have direct frontage on Apron VIII, allowing cargo to move efficiently between freighter aircraft and the warehouse. The facility will add capacity for time-sensitive freight, including e-commerce, perishables, pharmaceuticals, and aviation parts.

The project is an example of private investment following public investment in enabling transportation infrastructure. The Government of Canada has committed $118 million through the National Trade Corridors Fund toward the development of YEG’s International Cargo Hub (ICH) and related infrastructure.

The ICH encompasses more than 2,000 acres of serviced development land and is intended to support future cargo, logistics and trade-related development. Terracap’s facility location within YEG’s broader cargo development area will complement and support the continued growth of the ICH.

“Today’s groundbreaking is a great example of what happens when public investment creates the conditions for private investment. The International Cargo Hub is helping establish the infrastructure and connectivity needed to support long-term cargo growth at YEG, and we’re now seeing private-sector partners like Terracap respond with investments of their own. This facility will add new airside cargo capacity and strengthen the ecosystem we’re building here at Edmonton International Airport.”

Myron Keehn, President & CEO, Edmonton Airports

Terracap already operates approximately 100,000 square feet of airside cargo facilities at YEG, fully leased to major cargo operators including Air Canada, Cargojet, DHL and Purolator.

“Terracap Management is proud to partner once again with Edmonton International Airport on our third air cargo distribution facility. This new 50,000-square-foot building will provide tenants with efficient air cargo handling and distribution, connecting Edmonton businesses to markets across Canada and around the world. This investment reflects our continued confidence in Edmonton and YEG’s growing importance as a major North American air cargo and logistics hub. We are delighted to expand our longstanding partnership with the Airport Authority and contribute to Edmonton’s economic growth.”

Larry Krauss, Chief Executive Officer, Terracap Management Inc.

“When the federal government invests in infrastructure that connects our businesses to the world, it helps create the conditions for private investment to follow. Terracap’s new cargo facility is a great example of how these partnerships can strengthen Edmonton’s role in global trade, support economic growth, and create new opportunities for Albertans.”

Matt Jeneroux, Member of Parliament, Edmonton – Riverbend

“Alberta’s transportation infrastructure helps connect our businesses to markets and creates opportunities for investment and economic growth. Terracap’s new cargo facility is an example of how investment in infrastructure can help attract private-sector development, strengthen our transportation network and reinforce the Edmonton region’s role as a gateway for trade and logistics. Congratulations to Edmonton International Airport and Terracap on this important milestone.”

Brandon Lunty, MLA, Leduc – Beaumont

“On behalf of Leduc County Council, I want to thank Terracap for its ongoing confidence in our region, demonstrated by its investment in a new 50,000-square-foot cargo facility at Edmonton International Airport (YEG). I also want to congratulate YEG on this development, which showcases its rapidly expanding cargo infrastructure and supports continued economic growth and diversification in the region.”

Tanni Doblanko, Mayor, Leduc County

“Strategic public investments in infrastructure help create the conditions for private investment and economic growth. The 65 Avenue Interchange, completed in 2025, has improved connectivity around Edmonton International Airport, and Terracap’s new cargo facility is a tangible example of the private-sector investment, job creation, and economic opportunity that can result.”

Lars Hansen, Mayor, City of Leduc

“Terracap choosing to develop at YEG is a strong vote of confidence from an investor that already knows this market. Reinvestment like this is one of the clearest signals that the Edmonton region is competitive, connected and ready for business. Edmonton Global is proud to work alongside YEG and our partners to turn infrastructure into investment, and investment into global opportunity.”

Daryn Edgar, CEO, Edmonton Global
