Frankfurt Airport began 2026 with a slight improvement in cargo throughput, as reported by Fraport AG in its latest traffic update. In January, the hub processed 150,044 metric tonnes of freight and mail, reflecting a 1.2 percent increase compared with the same month a year earlier, indicating resilient demand despite ongoing volatility in global air cargo markets.
Flight activity also edged upward during the period. The airport recorded 31,284 take-offs and landings, representing a 1.1 percent rise year on year. Meanwhile, accumulated maximum take-off weights (MTOW) grew by 0.6 percent to approximately 2.0 million metric tonnes, pointing to a gradual expansion in carried payload capacity.
Beyond Frankfurt, Fraport’s January figures signaled continued positive trends across its international airport network. Passenger volumes showed notable gains alongside the stable freight performance, although detailed cargo statistics for the group’s other locations were not included in the preliminary report.
