Alaska Airlines will expand its dedicated cargo fleet with the addition of four leased Boeing 737-800 Boeing Converted Freighters (BCFs), increasing its freighter fleet from five to nine aircraft.
The additional aircraft are expected to enter service during the first half of 2027 and will be dedicated to operations in Alaska and Hawaii. Aircraft based in Hawaii are planned to operate under the Hawaiian Air Cargo brand, supporting the integration of the two airlines’ cargo businesses.
The expanded fleet will increase cargo capacity, improve network flexibility and enhance the transportation of time-sensitive shipments, including seafood, pharmaceuticals, groceries and e-commerce freight. Alaska said the additional capacity will also strengthen connections between Alaska, Hawaii and the U.S. mainland while creating new international cargo opportunities.
The fleet expansion forms part of Alaska Air Group’s long-term growth strategy, with cargo expected to become a larger contributor to the company’s earnings as it expands its global freight network.
